While I do understand that solo traveling is not everyone’s cup of tea, as a whole it is a very rewarding experience. When you are left all alone with yourself and your thoughts, you are sure to discover things about yourself that you didn’t know before. Travelling solo may seem scary and no doubt it is, it is also an adventure altogether. It is a fulfilling experience for those who dare to take the first step. Solo travelling has taken the travel industry by storm. It is a highly preferred option among youngsters. If travelling solo has been an item on your bucket list or if you are who is someone who is looking for suggestions or recommendations for places to go to, then this is the blog just for you.

Hampi, Karnataka

Hampi is also known as the ‘City of Ruins’ and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you are a history lover then Hampi is a must-visit destination. The city is located on the banks of the river Tungabhadra. Hampi is famous for the Virupaksha Temple, Temple Lotus Palace and the Hampi Vittala. Hampi was the world’s second-largest city and around was also the capital city of the Empire of Vijayanagar. Hampi is surrounded by busy street markets, stunning temples and almost 500 ancient monuments, making it a paradise for backpackers. The intricate carvings, rock formations and stone boulders get a lot of awe and marvel from architecture and history fanatics.

Kasol, Himachal Pradesh

Kasol is considered to be one of the top places in India for solo travelers. Kasol is a small village located along the banks of the river Parvati, in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Kasol is famous for the hippie culture and insane psychedelic parties. It is also known as the ‘Amsterdam of India’. Kasol is a paradise for adventure and nature lovers. The scenic views you will get to witness in Kasol will make you feel like you are in a postcard. You can go on treks and try out river rafting here. Kheerganga, Tosh and Malana are popular places for trekking.

Varkala, Kerala

The coastal town of Varkala in Kerala is famous for its ‘North Cliff’ that is 15 meters in height and is adjacent to the Arabian Sea. The laidback culture and the chill vibe at the shacks on the cliff, where one can enjoy great music and mouth-watering seafood delicacies make it a popular solo trip destination in India. Varkala has some of the lushest hills, pristine beaches, stunning lakes, forts, lighthouses, natural fisheries, all making it an ideal destination for travel. Varkala is also known as the samadhi of Sree Narayana Guru, who was a saint from Kerala.

Udaipur, Rajasthan

Popularly known as the ‘City of Lakes’, Udaipur is Rajasthan’s pride and glory. The city is surrounded by the Aravalli Hills and is breathtakingly beautiful. Along with ample natural beauty, Udaipur has some stunning works of architecture which can be seen in the temples and palaces here. If this is not convincing enough for you, then a boat ride through the serene waters of Lake Pichola should do the trick. If you are considering travelling solo, then I highly recommend visiting Udaipur, there’s so much to do in this city and is one of my top recommendations for sure.

Shillong, Meghalaya

This hill station is popularly known as the ‘Scotland of the East’ and is the capital city of the state of Meghalaya. The city is named after the idol Lei Shyllong. Shillong has pleasant weather all year and has some of the most picturesque views the country has to offer. This city is also the music capital of our country since a lot of leading Indian musicians come from Shillong. Shillong is also very culturally vibrant and throughout the year, many music festivals and events re being held here. Countless waterfalls, numerous mountain peaks, lakes with pristine waters and amazing golf courses are some of the few reasons you should consider Shillong for your next solo trip.
