A trip to a hill station may not solve all of those problems but it will definitely help you feel refreshed and have a new outlook on life. Hill stations make for the perfect vacation destination especially during summer, when you are looking to escape the heat. Gulmarg, Kashmir

Located amongst the mighty Himalayas, the beauty of Gulmarg knows no bounds. It is hands down one of the most picturesque hill stations India can boast of. Gulmarg is also a popular destination for skiing with some of the highest rope-ways that give you some of the most memorable views. And if that wasn’t enough, Gulmarg also has some of the most stunning lakes that only add to its beauty. If you are a foodie at heart, then you might not want to miss a chance to try out some famous Kashmiri delicacies that include Ghostaba, Rogan Josh, Mutton Nihari, Kahwa and the Noona Chai.

Mussoorie, Uttarakhand

This quaint hill station located at an altitude of 6000 feet in the state of Uttarakhand is also popularly known as the ‘Queen of hills.’ With the amazing view and pleasant weather that Mussoorie has to offer, it is split into two halves and that being Landour and Gandhi Chowk. While you are here don’t forget to visit Lal Tibba which is the highest point in Mussoorie, Gun Point that offers a bird’s-eye view of the Himalayas and the Kempty Fall among others. Mussoorie is also renowned for being home to popular personalities like Bill Aitken, Victor Banerjee and Ruskin Bond.

Darjeeling, West Bengal

Known to be one of India’s most beautiful hill stations, Darjeeling, is truly paradise on Earth. Located in West Bengal, this hill station is capped by the Kanchenjunga range and is the sole point from where you can spot Everest, Kanchenjunga, the hills of Sikkim, China and Nepal all at the same time. The cuisine here is influenced by its neighbouring countries and thus you’ll find food that resembles flavours from Tibet, Nepal and China. With the breathtaking views and the delicious food options, Darjeeling is a hard pass for sure.

Munnar, Kerala

Located 5200 feet above sea level, Munnar is a hill station near Kannan Deva Hills in the Western Ghats, in God’s own country, Kerala. Munnar is famous for its abundant tea plantations and scrumptious food. When in Munnar don’t forget to visit the Atukkad Waterfalls, Echo Point and the Eravikulam National Park. This park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to many diverse species of flora and fauna. Some famous dishes that you can try on your trip to Munnar are Nadan Kozhi Varuthathu, Idiyappam with Noolappam and beef fry with Malabar Parotta.

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Shimla is a popular vacation destination not only amongst Indians but also tourists all across the globe. Shimla is home to North India’s oldest post office, the second oldest church in North India called Christ Church and a natural ice-skating rink that was discovered in the year 1920 by the Britishers. If you just want to clear your mind, then you could always take a walk in the enchanting pine forests of Shimla. There are so many things you could do here like go shopping at Mall Road, take the toy train ride or if you are looking for an adrenaline rush, then try rafting at Tattapani.
